  • Dry Hands

I always seem to end up with awful dry hands. I don't have a dishwasher so I'm constantly doing dishes by hand. Then yesterday I had to send home one of my DCB for vomiting every five minutes. I cleaned everything with Clorox solution. Then my dd ended up having an accident on her nap cot so I had to scrub that. Even with gloves my hands get dry. Plus all the hand washing before/after diapers and making meals along with before handling bottles. I'm sure my hands aren't the only ones that seem to take a beating this time of year. What type of lotion do you ladies use to keep your hands soft? I got a mini bottle of dramatically different moisturizing lotion from Clinique when I bought the face cleaning system. It works very well but too expensive to use all the time.

Someone on here had suggested Gold Bond Healing lotion and that's what I use. It's great!! I have the same problems you do. My hands feel like sandpaper if I don't keep up with the lotion.

I switched to one of the moisturizing dish soaps and use Bath and Body Works creams (the stuff in tubes not bottles). It works well for me.

I second the Gold Bond (I use the one with Shea Butter-maybe it is the healing formula?). I also like Cetaphil cream moisturizer, Aquaphor, Vaseline Cocoa Butter cream, and just plain shea butter (100% Shea Butter). I have heard great things about O'Keefe Working Hands, as well. When I'm really dry, I'll take a long bath before bed, slather Aquaphor all over my hands and put on disposable gloves and wear them to bed.

Thanks ladies. I'm gonna get some Gold Bond and then try a few bath and body works lotions. The disposable gloves is a great idea for overnight. My hands are so dry it hurts so I'm willing to try just about anything.

I use coconut oil. It's very cheap, fragrance free, and wonderfully moisturizing.

I've found it helps to take vitamin E, consume a little coconut oil, eat some avocado. These healthy oils have done wonders for my skin!

I'm diabetic and have very dry skin. I use Gold Bond after having tried everything else.

                  Working Hands

I use Working Hands you can get it at Home Depot or most hardware stores. Great on lips and I have a spot on the side of my face that is really dry and started to use it there and it's working great.

Eucarin soothing repair cream is the only thing working for my dry, cracking hands.

I use utter balm from a farm supply store. I slather my hands with it and put socks on my hands

I have the same problem! I wash my hands probably 40 times a day, and I hate how they start to hurt. I use either coconut oil or Curel Soothing right now between washes, but occasionally at night I soak my hands in Corona (it's mostly lanolin, similar to udder butter, I buy a huge tub at the vet) and wear spa gloves to bed. Same routine for my feet in the summer! I think it doesn't matter so much what product you use, just that you cover your hands at night so your sheets don't wick away more moisture.

I also think that a lot of it has to do with our fat intake. I doubled my fish oil capsules and added a lot of coconut oil and avocado to my diet this fall and I can tell some major differences this winter from last as far as dry skin goes.

Ps, I have kiddos with dry cheeks or lip lickers with awful rashes above and below lips, so I smear Corona on them before nap and the rash is gone when they wake up. Miracle stuff!

I think I have tried everything over the years. This year I am going to try coconut oil, I have some at home and some at work. I just need to remember to put it on constantly. And to drink a lot of water.

Hmm I may try the coconut oil on my grandson his little cheeks are so chapped they look like they hurt. It doesn't seem to bother him but it is bothering the rest of us. They are using baby lotion right now but I wish we could find something better/faster for him.

I love coconut oil!! I lather it on all my parts. I use it as lip balm and lotion and since I don't use dairy, it's also my "butter". I buy it in huge tubs and just separate out a little jar of it to use as lotion/lip balm. lovethis
