Cloth diapers why or why not?

I currently don't allow cloth diapers. But had a call with someone asking for an infant opening and do I allow cloth diapers I said no and they hung up. My question is cloth diapers why or why not? Should I allow them?

I allow them and they don't bother me at all.

I make sure they send a wet bag and I don't do anything with the diapers other than put them in the bag, even poo diapers and let them know that.

The only problem I've had is the diapers leaking, but got tips from this forum on how to prevent that.

I allow them. I don't find them any more difficult from cloth and cloth in a wet bag smell much, much better than disposables in my garbage.

I PREFER cloth diapers and wish ALL my parents would use them.

I am actually toying with the idea of either supplying them or giving a discount to parents who use them.

The amount of garbage that it saves me is amazing, not to mention the "greenness" of cloth diapering too...

I think it is fantastic how cloth diapers have evolved since the days of folding, pinning and covering with plastic pants....SO easy to use!

I have one DCM that makes all her own cloth diapers right now and she does an amazing job!

I am PRO cloth all the way!!

Totally agree with melilley. I have had parents bring them and I put them in the wet bag and that is it. They do leak more than disposable though.

BC - do you supply diapers now? Just wondering about the discount you menitoned. Would it really be cheaper considering the laundry soap, bleach, water, etc?

I saw a provider who uses cloth post a picture this last weekend of all of the diapers she was getting ready to stuff. There were like 200 of them!! The time that would take, and the storage a person would need.

Cloth diapering is very easy. Parents should provide diapers already assembled and ready to use and with a waterproof outer layer or cover. They should also include a wet bag for dirty diapers which are sent home each day. I also do no rinsing, scraping or anything else.....just roll it and put it in the wet bag for home. Very easy.

No I do not supply them now. I would not discount if I supplied them.

I am considering either supplying them myself for a HIGHER rate/fee

If the parents supply/use them, discounting them for doing so. They would provide ALL supplies.

The only reason I would consider discounting if the parent used cloth is because it is so much less for me to deal with.

I bag all diapers, anyway.

Whether I toss them in my bag; to go out, or theirs; to go home, is no real difference to me.

They all cause rashes if not changed regularly and the eco footprint difference of each is debatable.

Oh, if I had a parent that could not handle the um.... responsibility.... of properly sanitizing them before sending them back to me, I would revoke their option. Yes, of course I'd offer help with technique first, but then down comes the hammer... or bill if they prefer that route.

Nasty, feces infused, rinsed cloth is not healthy for anyone.

I don't have anyone that cloth diapers, but I cloth diaper my own, so I would allow it. I would just require a large hanging wet bag and let them know that I wouldn't be the one responsible for rinsing off the poo and would just fold it up and put it in the bag. It would be up for the parent to wash the poo out of their own diapers.

The dcm I had that used cloth must not have know the techniques because the diapers smelled bad, and when they got wet they really smelled bad. She always was saying she needed to hang them in the sunlight but during a long MT winter that can be hard to come by!

Pro cloth here I dont find them any different other than ganding them back at the end of the day.
I used them on my kids when we wore diapers.

Love cloth and that is all I have ever done for my daughter. I use them on my nephew when he comes 2x week as well. I successfully got 1 client to transition to using them with her family and she brings them in when she has had time to wash them ::.
I do OFFER a cloth diapering service for $0.50/day and strangely no one has taken me up on that in well over 1.5 years. Not one person. I did it to prevent the parents from whining about how many diapers I was going through (since disposables are about $.25/each).

Is the state okay with a wetbag? The rules say place in bag and tie.

I do cloth on my daughter and use that in my advertising, but I have not gotten any kids in cloth yet. I do not like disposables.
