  • I Am One Over My Limit...What Happens?!?

    Hello All,
I am new to this forum and I am so happy I found it. What an awesome site. I have been a licensed in home daycare for a year in December. I have my yearly inspection coming up and and for about 4 hours a day I am one toddler over. (Yes, my fault). Should I consider dropping them?!? Or what will my licensing specialist do? Will I get shut down? Any input would be great!

    Thanks,
    Natalie

Depends on your state. Here you would be cited and required to prove within 24 hours that you have remedied the situation, basically by terminating the one family/child's care. If you fail to do so it would result in a fine of (I beleive) $150 per day with eventual shut down for non-compliance. It would also go on your permanent public record that you failed to follow licensing regs.

      Drop a kid. Now

In my state, it stays on your record f o r e v e r. Then if you are over limit again and get caught, the word used is *repeatedly*. Then when they do the inspections, they nit pick everything because you knowingly violated a rule that they consider health and safety. It's not a pretty sight and not worth the tarnish on your name.

Don't tell the parents why, just say you need to cut back. What you don't want is a parent calling in the complaint you are trying to avoid.

In our state, that would be a big problem. You're lucky that you know when your licenser is comming. We get suprise inspections, and they check your attendance records. They'd better be right AND they better be in compliance.

I agree that you should terminate the extra family, and I would not tell them you were over. You don't want them getting mad and calling in a complaint.

If this family already knows you are over, no sense beating around the bush. Just tell them you didn't realize it was such a big deal, and you're really sorry...
