  • Diarrhea Policy?? 9 Days Now...

I have a 3 year dcb who has had awful diarrhea diapers since last Monday and mom/dad said last weekend it started. I told them after day 5 it would be a good idea to probably see the pedi. They called and said to come in today if still going on. Would you have them get him or keep him at home until they figure it out? I'm horrible with conflict but seriously 2-3 loose diapers a day every day is getting nuts...and he does cloth diapers.

My policy is more than 2 diarrhea poops in a row are cause for exclusion and they can regurn when they habe been diarrhea free for 24 hrs since last episode.

This kid would not be at my house at all!

I had one like that about a month ago, and I didn't have the backbone to tell DCM she couldn't be here. She was acting fine, just had nasty diapers. Well, 2 days after she started with the diarrhea, a nasty stomach bug spread through half my DCKs, myself and 2 of my own kids. Was kicking myself for not sticking up for my family and the rest of the kids in my care!

I'm sure the child is "teething" ugh!

I would exclude for sure. Something is going on

          CDC Daycare Exclusion policy:

          Diarrheal illness: cause unknown

There are many causes of diarrhea in children under age five. Illness may be mild and not require medical attention.

          Symptoms
          • - Stool frequency
          • exceeding two or more
          • stools above normal for that child
          • - Stools containing blood or mucus
          • - Stools that are not contained in a diaper
          • - Fecal accidents by a child who is normally toilet trained

          Prevention:
          • - Proper surface disinfection
          • - Proper food storage and preparation
          • - Regular and thorough handwashing

          Exclusion:

          Exclude until diarrhea ends

I would insist on disposable diapers until diarrhea is under control.

I have one that every poop diaper is an explosion. It's because she's on daily miralax for low tone. :P But I put plastic pants over her diaper and it prevents leaks.

So if it's not from an illness and isn't going away any time soon, I'd ask mom for plastic pants to go over her disposable diaper.

If its leaking out a cloth diaper, you are doing something wrong ::

I would come up with some kind of solution/ compromise with the parents if you are going to keep the child. Maybe a bland diet for the meantime.
