Poor dcb 3 sneezes constantly. Every day. And when he sneezes he flings wads of snot on down his face, on my carpet, today it was on my couch. I feel so bad for him. He's not sick. It's just allergies & it's like this every day. He takes be adryl & that helps, but then he's so tired. It's just...gross. and sad.

A child has allergies this bad and the only solution the parents have come up with is drugging with Benedryl continually?
If this were me I would need some sort of long term plan of action from a DR to solve the allergy issues. Has this kid even been allergy tested? What is he allergic too? Are they cutting the allergen out? Soo many times “allergies” are used as a catch all for symptoms. This much snot is not really normal! Poor you for having this going on in your house, GROSS!

How long has this been going on?
If it's "allergies", it needs to be documented with a Dr's diagnosis and treatment plan. At 3, they may be able to give him Children's Claritin if it's seasonal.
Benedryl every day can be a dangerous thing! Not only to his health but cognitively speaking: if he's constantly drowsy, what is he learning throughout his day? How is his social skills developing, how are his motor skills developing, kwim?
Not to mention the health factor for your environment- bodily fluids (snot) constantly flying out into your environment is going to lead to some nasty illnesses going around.

I'd really work with him on sneezing into his elbow. One cold season has most of my 3 year olds completely mastering this skill. Allergies suck, and the little one needs better treatment. My kiddo takes non-drowsy benedryl, but only when her claratin isn't working yet.

It's been going on off & on probably since March. He has a few good days & right back to sneezing. I've suggested the claritan or something similar, but apparently Dr told them Benadryl as needed was fine. I'm guessing he didn't realize how often it's needed. I don't think they use it often on days he is at home. Just when he's coming here b/c I comment on the sneezing so frequently. He is very bothered by it so I think sneezing on his elbow would freak him out. Noteably, it would be better than sneezing on my carpet. Haha I'll have to suggest the daily claritan again. He's a sweet heart, but chronically tired. And cries/whines a whole lot. He doesn't play well with the other kids either. Would much rather play alone or with me.

Doesn't matter what excuse or what medical reason mom gives you if it isn't helping.
I also never listen/believe a parent when they say "Dr said....". If the Doctor said, then the Dr can put it in writing so I have an allergy plan on file.
If he doesn't have allergies, then he is sick and shouldn't be in care at all.
