Trying to get my new house set up to get licenced in Michigan and my family room that is going to be mainly used for daycare had a fireplace in it. It has tile level with the ground around it and brick wall from floor to ceiling and the brick wall sticks out about 4"out from the regular walls.
Right now while working on the whole house, I have put a baby doll bed, toy box and work bench on front of it so my boys won't fall and get hurt.
Over the winter we didn't use the fire place because I won't use it until it's been inspected and cleaned. We really didn't use the fireplaces in past houses unless the power went out or it was Christmas opening presents. So I'm not planning on using it during daycare hours.
Can I pass inspection with putting big toy items like a kitchen and work bench to cover the fireplace area? Or do I need a padded cover on the tile and wall?
