  • What Do You Use for Taking Temperatures?

I was having trouble finding covers for my very old ear thermometer and noticed the new forehead scan thermometers. Does anyone use them? Are they accurate enough? My dc kids are all 3 and under and I like to be able to quickly take their temps if they feel warm (and I always take it in dcp's presence if I am sending child home with a fever!).

What type do you use for daycare kids?

I bought an Exergen temporal artery thermometer at Costco last year and I love it. It is the same thing they use at my kids doctor's office.

I have a Braun Thermoscan Pro 4000 ear thermometer like this one:

I also have a refill box of ear covers (800 of them)
I can buy refills for the ear covers pretty cheap
      (200 for $14)

I have the same exact one and get the same ones from amazon. I love it and I have had it for going on 5 years. Replaced batteries only once. I find it to be the most accurate thermometer on the market.

I figure it must be a good one......one of my "EX" daycare mom's gave it to me as a Christmas gift one year.

She's a supply nurse at an area hospital.

When I rebuffed at accepting such an expensive gift, she didn't hesitate to reassure me she got it at a "discount"....the five finger kind.

But yes, it IS reliable and accurate.

......funny story, but yes, awesome to have.

I used to get my latex gloves like that....I felt guilty and told my husband not to do that anymore.

I use the Exergen temporal and love it. The ear scanners are good, too, but things like ear canal shape and excess wax can interfere with accuracy.
