I am sitting through the (very long) three hour overview class today. They handed out the binder and the application, which is actually for registered and not certified, which is what I want to apply for. He said if I wanted to become certified, I would have to call and have someone come to my house to inspect. That seems really backwards. (there are education requirements for certified providers so . . . :confused. Anyone jumped through these hoops here before and have insights?

I too am in Oregon. I have been a Registered provider for 15 years and am almost ready to become Certified. Jumping through hoops would be great!! Yes there are certain education requirements, Oregon Registry Requirements etc. I had emailed my current licensor and was asking her what I needed to do to change my licensing. She said when I am ready to call her and she would come out to measure my home. As you know, depending on age groups, and how many kiddos you want to care for you need a certain amount of square foot per child when Certified. Funny, when Registered you don't need the square foot requirements but Certified you do.
Good luck to you!! Wishing you the very best!

I've been a registered provider for 19 years. To be certified they will need to measure your house, have sanitation come out, fire marshall (I think) and then do a final inspection.
For certification you do need to have certain education pieces in place and I believe be a certain step on the Oregon Registry. Also (don't quote me) but I also think you have to have done childcare for so long before doing certified. Each day is a fresh start
Never look back on regrets
Live life to the fullest
We only get one shot at this!!

Anyway, my specialist spent two hours here yesterday going over everything. Now I have a month to get the house ready and the sanitation inspection completed. Let the fun begin.
