Best Kind of Baby Gate?

Looking for a new & functional baby gate. At the moment I have the cheap wood pet/baby gates - (the pressure mounted kind where you adjust thw width by using the notches) - which work great on my smaller door frames. I am in need of one for the bottom of my stairs where the area is wider. There is a banister on one side and a wall on the other. There is some trim on the bottom of the wall that sticks out an inch and prevents this type of gate from working well. So any suggestions on gates for irregular doorframes? This one needs to be foolproof so my babies can't get up on the stairs.

I love it and it is very sturdy. I also have trim that sticks out and it is easy enough to adjust to fit the different widths btwn the trim for the lower and the wall for the upper.

This one is hardware mounted and I love it, as well. It is easy to adjust to different widths. One side is to the wall/trim and the other to a knee wall (it is a half wall). The nice thing about this gate is that you can easily take it out of the hardware and store it out of the way. Nice feature for holidays and extended closures.

The thing I like best about each is that they each have a doorway so that the gates, themselves, never have to move.

We have 3 retractable gates and love them. One is at the bottom of the stairs like you are describing. We had the large framed gate which worked but this rolls up and is out of the way all night/weekend since which is nice because we don't need gates for our own kids anymore.

I have half doors where I want/need gates.
My DH just cut a regular door in half and installed as a regular door. I have one door that functions as a regular door but also opens in the middle so that I can either use it a whole door or a half door depending on my need at the moment.

I have this and love it. The door automatically slams shut and it is sturdy enough that all 3 of my toddlers can't pull it down when they work together. This is the 1st gate that I have tried that can withstand them all. I don't make a habit of letting them shake down the gate, but they have done it in the past. They just turned 2 and turning my back on them is NEVER a good idea.

I have one of these too. My dh had to trim the holding bar because it was rough. The older kids will play with it.

Thank you all so much! Now I will have a hard time deciding! I like the retractable one! That way my house won't ALWAYS look like it's run by kids (even tho it is )
