  • Painting Preschool....Need Help With Colors!!!

I have a cubby area (like a long hallway with a dead end) and one big room that's like 40'x32' or so with 3 very big windows, a single door, and a double door. Since we built this house over 2 years ago the walls have been white. It's sooooo boring! Even with decorations up it's still not very kid friendly. So I'm taking Wednesday-Sunday to paint and redecorate. I decided since we have so many curtains (there's another window in the cubby area and the doors have curtains too bc so much sunlight shines through it's not very dark at naptime) we will find fabric we like and then base the wall colors (willing to do multiple colors) off the fabric. Here's some fabrics I found at JoAnn's that I really like. I'm going to Hobby Lobby today to look some more. Originally I wanted bright, not primary colors. Our fence outside has rainbow colors and is very primary. The infant/toddler house has a room with black and white spots, and a dark blue night time room for sleeping, and the play rooms have farm murals with pastel type colors. So I was thinking of using purple, fushia, teal, orange, etc type colors. But today as I started packing up things and taking things off the walls I realized that there are a lot of standard red, blue, yellow type things here (I have 6 chairs of each color, a toy sorting bin with those 3 colors, an ABC rug that's blue with the other primary colors, etc). So I don't want everything to clash. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

I also thought about doing solid color curtains and making valences with one of these fabrics.

I like the idea of solid color curtains with the valences or even curtain ties of contrast print. Then you could make pillows with the prints and add in accents with the print.

Added.. I noticed one color stands out that is consistent in every picture. The green.

My playroom is lime green, my hallway is yellow, orange and redish/pink and my nap room is a dark purple. I LOVE it. It's not primary, but it's still very colorful. I would probably choose one fabric for all of the curtains, and then paint each room a different color that's based in the curtains to tie everything together, but that's just me. I love the first polka oft fabric!
