Unbelievable! But I can see the over ratio thing happening. I know that here, money is tight and licensing almost never comes by unless there is a complaint and even then, they may never show or it will be weeks later.
Here you are registered if you are a family home (6 children) and are licensed if you are a group home (12 children). My inspector said it's the same thing, they basically have 2 different terms to distinguish group from family. I just say I'm licensed, I always forget about registered term.

also saw on Nancy Grace last night a story about a woman who was giving.Benadryl and prescription drugs to make then sleep. 5 kids go to the hospital.
Illegal......totally.
It's people like this that give us a bad name. I sometimes hear people say "I'll never take my kids to a dc or it's inevitable, we will have to take Jonny to dc". Just like in any profession, unfortunately, there are always bad apples.

This happened in my state so we are bracing for the flurry of new regs that come out of tragedies like this. It's my understanding that the baby was in a bassinet filled with blankets and stuffed animals, there was an unsupervised toddler in the yard and her daughter was hiding downstairs with about 14 kids.

I just read a DHS report for a provider in my state that left an infant alone napping while she ran to the school to retrieve her other kids.
When the state stopped by for a visit...they had to wait 15-20 minutes for the provider to return.
When she did return, her reasoning for leaving the infant was that the infant was sleeping and she had a baby monitor in her pocket so the child WAS within hearing...

Somebody, somewhere did something STUPID and the rest of us pay.
Because of the news story in the OP many of us will be required to take yet another class on ratio, proper supervision, ethics and accountability.- Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

See...writing more regs is not the answer, but that's what every state does. ENFORCE the ones you have. She was checked out numerous times, and had violations. She had 23 children when she was regulated to have up to 6. They'll write more regs, and people like her will continue to IGNORE them.

A warrant found that Wood had a record for the same offense on a different occasions. The day care facility has now been forced to close until at least the middle of May.
Like there should ever be the possibility of her opening ever again!!
