At what age do children able to start doing things for themselves. How do you get then if they refuse. It really does depend on the child and what the task is. My 18 mo. old really tries to do a lot himself, but my other 18 mo. old doesn't. My 2.5 yo's really try to do everything.
If they refuse to do something, I will say "M. you need to try to put your coat on by yourself. If you can't do it, I will help you, but you need to try first. Then I will walk away. If they try I will help if needed and if they don't, I'll walk away or have them help me (hand over hand) do the task.

at what age children should able to use fork snd spoons? They can try as soon as they are able to hold them. My 18 mo. olds can use a fork and spoon (though it doesn't always end up in their mouths ::

how can you talk to parents to be on the same page with you if you are teaching kids I usually just tell the parents "we are working on ____ here". They usually say "oh we can do that at home". Or I may put a section in my newsletter about what ever we are working on.

At what age they should able to put hat on and off? My 18 mo. old can do this

Shoes velco My 2.5 year olds can do this

put shoes on My 18 mo can do this

put jackets on My 2.5 year olds try as do my 18 mo. old, but only my 3 yo can successfully do it alone

pull their pants and underwear down for potty Around 2.5 -3-this really depends

pack up toys My 18 mo olds try, but the 2.5 year and up can do it

color with crayon Any age, once they can hold a crayon. Not inside any lines of course

    print ? depends on child

I'm just telling you what I have experienced from experience. I have been working mainly with infants and toddler for the last upteenth years and have found that they do or can do things at different rates, but there definitely are some kids who just don't want to try anything! My 18 mo. ds tries to do almost everything (I'm not just saying this because he is my ds, but he does), but my other 18 mo. old will try some things, but not others.
