It is hard with there being so many different traditions with it. We wanted to keep the Santa part of Christmas simple, so kept it to a stocking and one gift. The gift from Santa was not the main gift, but something nice that they wanted. We picked books that kept with this idea and did not have a TV. It was important to us that they give thanks to those who bought them the gift. Worked for a few years really well, until they got to school & hear that all the presents under the tree were from Santa in other houses, or different books convey different traditions. It did get questioned in our house about the need for a toy drive.

Another fun one is the tooth fairy. I always figured it was a buck a tooth. Didn't realize some families give out 5's & 10's.

We did this last year at a resturaunt and I don't remember DS asking why Santa was not giving the little kids a gift. I think we just told him there are kids out there that were not as lucky as him and his brother and he wanted to help. We actually left, went to Target and came back with a toy. It melted my heart that he wanted to help!lovethis I am one that will almost always donate when the cashier at the grocery store asks me, even if I am shopping with my calculator, I know it could be so much worse.
