  • Stressed With Kid - Need Advice

Hi I am a regular logged out for privacy

Ok so I watch a toddler that recently has been a handful! I love the parents, they have been with me from day one, they are great. Their child is a Sweeny pie but just out of routine lately. She usually falls asleep around 12 like the Other kids her age, but usually Monday and Tuesday its hell putting her for nap. She will keep getting up, try to wake others, jump. We keep going in putting her down , again and again. Today she only napped for an hour. She throws food, rubs it everywhere . She also usu naps around 4:30, that's when i clean up make dinner, but today she got out of the crib. So I don't want to strap her down for an hour while I clean and cook, So I am wasting money ordering out. She is usually here until 6, everyone else leaves by 4/4:30....dad is about to leave job, I know his hours are flexible...I asked mom if she can change hours and it will be cheaper for her but she wants to. Stay this hour. I changed my daycare hours for everyone that inquires to 5:30. I am just feeling burnt out with this late pick up, I don't want to loose them either, any advice?

i think you already know the answer. the mom wants these late pickups, she is making that clear. and I would also guess that they are leaving this child at daycare as much as possible because she has become too much for them as well. your only choices are to insist on the earlier pickup, and risk losing this family or leave things as is. the mom has drawn the line, either you give in or you dont.

You said you are feeling burnt out with this late pick up. If you are feeling that way now, how do you suspect you'll feel in 6 months? 1 year?

I would absolutely insist that they pick up at the same time as everyone else. YOUR mood is not worth sacrificing to accommodate someone who could work with the hours you wish to have, but is choosing not to.

Are the parents really working until this late or are they just leaving because they can? If they are just leaving her I would tell them you just can't do it anymore because it is effecting your family routine. If they truely need until this time maybe you could make some busy bag type activites for her to do in the kitchen to only be used during this time there are lots of ideas on pintrest.

For nap I would say just keep putting her back into the crib if you are firm maybe she will give up I know it is hard. What about moving her to a nap mat with a play yard around it she cannot climb over that. This is what I do when i move my to mats for the 1st month or so.

          Good luck

I agree with cheer. This is another reason I ask for work scheduals and I stress the importance of not bringing your child here when you have a day off. I had a mom who would do this, so I started implementing a late fee, anything after 9 hours you are paying a late fee, because really I don't want to deal with their whiny children either.

also, if you notice, many of us don't work past 5pm and I can tell you what a big difference it has made, not only for me but for my family. I think I would change my hours. if they like you then they will make it work, if they decide to leave then you will know that they were just dumping the kid on you because they didn't want to deal with her.

I like the idea of the play yard. Any specific height?

As for dad, he works until his contract ends so he can work the hours he wants to..so I am not sure if he is actually at work or not. I would like to express to them that on the days my assistant is not here , Tuesday and Wednesday , I would appreciate if they could pick her up earlier so I can have more time with my family and cook and so forth....I def don't want to loose them but I wish they would be able to see from my point of view as well...
