  • How and Where Do You Store Blankets ?

This week we have came in contact with head lice, and needless to say I have been on edge since then. But I was wondering where and how you store you blankets for each kid ? I have nap mats that just fold up and I store on the top shelf in the closet..but I am not sure how to do the blankets, and now with the lice issue, I do not want the blankets to touch..But unsure where to put them. Any advice would be great !! Thanks

Each of the kids in my care have totes by the front door. I ask parents to bring the blankets from home, and we store them in their tote so they don't really come in contact with the other ones.

I have those clear see-through plastic drawers on wheels. I bought the sets that have three drawers and I bought two sets for a total of six drawers...one drawer for each child. The drawers are just big enough to hold each child's blanket, little pillow, and stuffed animal. I put their names on the front of their drawers. And since they are on wheels I can store them in a closet or another room and pull them out easily at naptime.

I use the big reuseable cloth shopping bags. all of the kid's stuff fits in one and then it gets hung up in the closet. (the handles loop aroung the "hook" part of a hanger). Right now they are just plain fabric tote-bag ones (but they are pretty heavy duty, like the thickness of a pair of jeans) Soon I want to have them made with each childs name printed on the outside. (I love vistaprint.com!!)

ETA: I use cloth ones because they can be tossed into the laundry with the beddding at the end of the week. I figure i do enough hand scruubing/bleaching!

Yes, this works good! I used to do it this way until I started giving each child little travel pillows and stuffies and then they didn't stack anymore. Not enough room between the cots for everything.

Cots are stacked and blankets are put back in their cubbies. But, now I'm interested in leaving their blankets on their cots after reading that y'all do. Hmmmm.

Each of my kids has a slot in their cubbie to house their own nap mat and pillow and blanket.

When I worked in a cdc we stored the blankets on the cot, but the blankets could not touch the other cots. So essentially we would just pull the ends off and kind of spread it out on the cot and then the cots were stored away where no one could touch them.

I can't afford to get cots right now so I'm going to start out with foldable mats and spray and wipe after nap time each day. But I plan on using those fabric hanging sweater shelf things in the closet and each blanket will get rolled up onto there and if they have a pillow it will be stuffed in there too. If it's too big, I can give each child two cubes. BUT, not sure how washable they are. Now that I think about it, not sure how I would sanitize them other than spraying a bleach solution into each spot and letting it air dry. Now I have to do more research!!! LOL

I have a shelf above where I stack the cots. Each blanket gets folded and snuggle buddies get placed on top. There's room for each blanket to lay not touching the others. I feel like it's a bit of a waste of space but the shelf can't hold enough weight to store toys or anything (I used it for picture frames etc when the naproom was my home office).

I have these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001F51ADU/..._df_B001F51ADU each child is assigned a number and I write that on the cubbie. I use these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001F51ADU/..._df_B001F51ADU on top of the Regalo nap cots. I put the blanket in an extra large zip lock before putting it away.

This is a great idea! I store my cots standing up so it would be hard to keep the blankets and pillows b/w them. The cots are stored in the playroom closet and this could go right next to it to hold their blankets and pillows.

I store mine standing up too . I use fitted crib sheets on the cots, and then the blankets, pillows and stuffies get tucked underneath the sheets after naptime. The cots don't fit together as tightly as they would without the crib sheets, but this way they're easier to pull apart anyway .
For the lice concern, I would just stand my cots without nesting them, kwim? Blankets, etc. would still be stored separately that way.
