  • Shutting Us Down

    I have heard here in CA that they are trying to shut us all down. Has any else heard this? I know of at least 30 in the last 3 months that were shut down. I know CA has their 4 yr olds in a public pre-school program located at the elementary schools. You pay about $80/wk for 4 days per week and about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs a day. It is not day care but they really don't learn anything either. We all know the reputation of CA's public schools. The more they get in their schools the more money CA makes to dig themselves out of the red. They want just this public program and large centers.

    Who has heard anything like this or who has heard anything at all?

    I also live in CA.. I have not heard anything about this at all...I do know that they recently changed the enrollment cut off date to sept 1 and that a child now must be 5 when they start school....This is the reason that they are starting the head start because now some children like my son who was born on sept 17, will have to stay home for one more year

      this is what I found:

      Also the head start program that is being offered is only for half day....they will not provide daycare. So for those parents that need a full day will have to place their child in an home daycare or preschool program....
      I teach several different programs at my home and the parents love it....So far all of my business is off of referals....

        Huh? I haven't heard ANYTHING about this, and I stay fairly well-informed.

        Now, there is a push for kindergarten entry date to be moved up, so children have ot be 5 by Sept. 2, rather than Dec. 2nd, and with that they would create a VOLUNTARY kindergarten readiness program for children who turn 5 before Dec. 2nd.

        There is no push to shut down FCC. There is no way tat a voluntary kindy readiness program will negate the need and demand for full-day child care services. It is simply a part-day, part-year kindy readiness program for 4.5-5 year olds. They will offer that program because there will certainly be angry parents when they find out their child cannot start kindergarten at 4 years old.

                      Long beach Ca. baby!!!!
                      woo hoo ::

                      yes, and they are really messing with us as far as calworks goes!
                      The past gov. just created the states first "work to welfare program" taking away childcare funding for 80,000 children in Ca. their parents can't afford to pay for childcare so a lot of moms are having to quit their jobs and go back on welfare!
                      Or face leaving their kids in unlicensed , unreliable, childcare , unwilling family members or just home alone.... it's very sad!!! and it will cost the state more money in the future!
                      I heard they are going to hopefully reinstate stage 3 in April....hmmmm we will see!

                        Orange County here, city of Orange, about 10 minutes from Disneyland.

                        Haven't heard of anything new since the Welfare to Work stuff...maybe Jerry Brown will adjust the adjustments Gov. Schwarzenegger adjusted. We shall see.

                              I am from Fresno County in Calif. I haven't heard anything about shutting down daycares. However, there are alot that are closing down due to the economy but just as many getting started because they can't find jobs. We got hit hard here including me. I taught for a while but can't find a teaching job right now. Doesn't look like it will be getting better anytme soon.
