  • How Do You Deal with the Stress?

The past month I have been so stressed out! I've had a lot of changes happening in my day care. Lost a family, got a new baby who has some serious attachment issues, parents doing disrespectful and ridiculous things, toddler melt downs, etc....

Anyway, I feel like I might be on the verge of a breakdown. This job could possibly be shortening my life span. My stomach is in knots!

How do you all deal with the stress of all of this and crying babies....all day long?

I am hoping that this is just a rough patch and that it is going to get better when things settle down.

I am just getting through a stressful time too and what I found helped me relax was to remember why I love being my own boss. I changed things I didn't like, then I addressed things I don't have the power to change and figured out how to live with them. I am trying to be better about "closing" at night as far as setting a limit of how much time after 5pm I allow myself to deal with dc stuff. Hopefully less and less.

Give yourself a treat at night. After my kids go to sleep at night I get either ice cream or wine while watching a show. It helps me feel like "me" and not Ms. Daycare Lady

Can you take the crying baby out on walks? That helps me clear my mind in the moment. Sometimes we all go for a lap around the block and then try again (I pretend it is a new day back inside).

    Hang in there!

When I have a kid that is just pushing my buttons and making my blood pressure rise I give them a big old bear hug and then tickle them. Some thing about the hug makes us both feel better. I also will try and get a massage on the weekends. Nothing fancy, sometimes just a chair massage at the mall. You have to find something that works for you.

I've been having a stressful time lately also. Some days I can't quite pinpoint what it is. By the end of the day I'm in pain from the tension in my back, so I'm trying to learn how to relax and de-stress. I haven't figured it out yet. Haha.

I second a treat in the evening. Sometimes bowl of ice cream at night is what I look forward to during the day. Also, get some time alone to do what you want to do. I have a problem getting any "me" time, but I know it would help a ton.

I hope you find something that works for you and keeps you sane!

Being your own boss is great, you probably make more than minimum wage and you don't have to go out in crappie weather.

I turn my phone on quiet hours and only my inner circle can break through. That helped a lot. Dcf would call or text and it was like I was working all the time. Make some policy changes to your benefit.

            I don't.....................................

no amount of money is worth me having to stress.'

If I am feeling stressed out I leave it and come back to it another day when I am feeling better.

If a family is stressing me out, I figure out if they need to go or not.

IT would be unrealistic to say that I don't stress, of course I do, but once I feel the smallest ounce of it, I rid of the issue causing it right away.

            Laughing for me works...

This will be my 4th yr being open as an fcc. I started feeling stressed my 2nd yr, 3rd yr was worse because I had a dck that was very mentally and physically draining didn't help that parents were not helpful and in denial. The stress was affecting my health and family time. Ended up terming the dck, my first, and I'm sure not my last. I also changed my hours to close earlier and close on Fridays. It takes a little longer to fill my spaces, but it is worth it. Now I'm less stressed because I have time to decompress (read), spend time with my family, and my health is much improved.

Preparing contract/policy/handbook that alleviates potential daycare issues from arising. Also, 30 minutes of walking every day helps.

I vent to my husband, snuggle with the daycare kiddos, step outside for a brief minute at nap, and count my blessings.
